Kindergarten - 8th Grade Collaborative Art Project - Friday, January 29, 2010

Mrs. McWilliams, our art teacher at Naples Christian Academy, implemented a collaborative art project in which she and her students created their own replica of Dale Chihuly's "The Persian Ceiling," now on display in the main hallway of our school. The replica is 15 feet long by 3 feet wide. Nearly 200 individual students worked on the project, each creating their own individual "glass bowls" to contribute to the ceiling. Each "glass bowl" is made of clear flexible plastic, and the colors were applied through the use of permanent markers. The design and color of each child's "glass bowl" was chosen by the child; the project involved each student in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Mrs. McWilliams has a thirteen year history of fostering creativity and innovation in student art work at Naples Christian Academy, many of which are shown in local art galleries as well as at The Naples Philharmonic Student Art Show. Last year, Barbara McWilliams was named Florida Elementary School Teacher of the Year by the Association of Christian Schools International.
