Responding to the Aftermath of the Earthquake in Haiti
- Thursday, January 21, 2010
As a school community, we desire to respond with Christ's love and grace to the needs of the world. The news about the devastating earthquake and its aftermath that took place in Haiti last week has brought us to our knees as we mourn and pray for those impacted. God and His people are at work in Haiti, and we would like to encourage our families to continue to pray. We have seen our students respond to the devasation in authentic and heartfelt ways in the classroom. Our students have been burdened to uphold their Haitian brothers and sisters in prayer, to give sacrificially to relief efforts, and to encourage their peers to respond in kind.
If you and your family would like to contribute to relief efforts, please consider contributing to the following organizations/fundraisers. Both organizations presently have staff on the ground in Haiti and are already providing supplies and essential items to the people who have been affected by this terrible earthquake.
In accordance with our school's mission to develop students with hands prepared to serve, in the coming weeks, we anticipate organizing a food drive to collect non-perishables. At this point, many organizations are innundated with food-stuffs. We are receiving information from organizations anticipating a sharp decline in food donations over the next few months. We will seek to organize a school-wide food drive at that time. Additionally, our kindergarten mission, which supports a school and orphanage in Haiti, will be spearheading an effort to provide relief to Haitians impacted by the earthquake. More details will be forthcoming when we receive direction from our partners in Haiti.
I will be sure to keep you up-to-date via the Parent Connection and the Academy's blog.
