Economic Persepctive

The recent turmoil of the markets is certainly an interesting phenomenon to behold. Although I am not as financially-savvy as some of my counterparts, the way the markets work still intrigues me. I don't pretend to understand the intricacies of why we had the week we did, what caused it, and who's to blame. All I can say is that God will use whatever means necessary to point our hearts to His sovereignty, and this is what I pray for. It was a week in which people witnessed unthinkable financial losses, and I pray that the experience of brokenness directs people to the Cross- to the only economy that will never let them down: God's systematic redemption of His people.
I have a hard time understanding how people can cope with the mortality and uncertainty of life on earth without the Hope that springs eternal. The Psalmist says in chapter 102:3, "My days vanish like smoke." The Newsboys, in their song "Breakfast," so aptly beg the question, "Those here without the Lord, how do you cope?" (Coincidentally, the song also uses a variety of colorful breakfast food imagery, which I find endlessly amusing!)
The reality of God's economy is that nothing belongs to us; what we think of as our money is actually the Father's. My dad consistenly reminds me that the only safe thing to do with my money is to give it away. As we have seen recently, there is no safe investment except for investing in things of eternal value.
